The Kingdom of What Is follows courageous, 13-year-old Kate on her epic quest into an enchanting new country. But she soon discovers this land is under siege by a pretender to the throne. The rebel, Grod Vurmis, and his followers have brought a plague upon the kingdom. They are causing freak storms, turning the inhabitants into shadows, looting libraries, and changing the stories so the people no longer remember who they are. Kate and her three friends discover the royal palace in shambles and join the paltry army of Prince Servan and, without weapons, go up against Grod Vurmis. Karl Petersen grew up in Sumas, Washington. He holds degrees in biology, theology, and creative writing. He has also published two collections of poetry. He now lives with his wife and two daughters in Vancouver, B.C., where he teaches English at Kwantlen Polytechnic University.
