The presence of the mountain, along with its beauty and individualism have been a focal point to in Whitehead’s work. He sees Mt. Baker as “an icon of boundless creativity, inspiration, and individual freedom,” which he works to express through his paintings. Whitehead is a self-taught artist who creates colorful landscapes inspired by Mt. Baker, the surrounding Nooksack Valley foothills, and Mt. Shuksan. He paints in acrylic on canvas, murals, walls, rock, wood, and fences - just about any surface that is made available.
