Date: February 16, 2017
Time: 7:30 PM - 9:30 PM PST
Event Description:
The Jansen Art Center invites you to attend the Winter Session for the Jansen Jazz Band on Thursday, February 16, 2017 at 7:30pm. The concert will take place in the beautiful Chamber Hall at the Jansen Art Center in Lynden, WA. Under the direction of Steve Herrick, twenty-three local musicians will perform at the winter concert. According to Herrick, this concert “will have a good variety of jazz standards, show tunes, Latin pieces and rockers!” There are two new members to the band this session, Larry and Norma Jean Howlett from Bellingham. Bariton Saxophonist, David Laws will be featured on the great Antônio Carlos Jobim tune, “Wave.” Tenor Saxophonist Mitch Moquin has a solo performance in “Angel Eyes” by composer Matt Dennis. Rounding out the two sets the band will perform the works of Duke Ellington, Harold Arlen, George Gershwin and Consuelo Velázquez. Unique to this concert, says Herrick, “the band is preparing the epically fowl tune, “The Chicken,” by Kris Berg, a blazing funk tune that led to a series of Berg poultry songs.” Tickets for the concert are $10 and are available at the Jansen Art Center Gallery Shop, or online at www.jansenartcenter.org/tickets.
